Relieve Constipation
and Start Living Again

You may be the butt of lots of jokes, but to relieve constipation is a serious business to the sufferer, (and I should know)!

Luckily, effective constipation remedies that actually work DO exist and may I suggest that medical practitioners often are not so good at dealing with the problem.

Dealt with responsibly, there is no one better placed to relieve constipation than the sufferer. Contrary to most doctors beliefs’, the client does in fact know their body better than anyone else and you must use this knowledge to choose the constipation remedies that are right for YOU.

There are different types and causes of constipation and so obviously need to take the cause into account when choosing the treatment for constipation.

Types of Constipation

  • Occasional constipation – maybe only when you are on holiday or away from home

  • sometimes constipation – sometimes diarrhea

  • hard stools which are difficult to pass

  • pass only tiny hard “rabbit droppings”

  • regularly constipated

  • long term, chronic constipation (always constipated).

Constipation can also mean different things to different people.

Some clients use the term “constipated” when they don’t go to the toilet every day.

For other clients, constipated can mean going every 12 – 21 days, hardly going at all except once a month around the time of their menstrual cycle, or being unable to go without medication / suppositories, enemas etc.

    Common Factors in Constipation

    may be (but not necessarily)

  • Food intolerance

  • Diet low in fibre, fruit, veg, salad etc

  • Inadequate fluid (water) intake

  • Excess alcohol – long term dehydration including for the bowels

  • Low or no exercise

  • Not going to the toilet when feeling the urge

  • Not liking to use any toilet but at home (embarrassment)

  • Family history

  • Predominantly female

  • Stopping smoking

  • Long history of bowel problems even often dating back to early childhood

  • Previous overuse of laxatives

  • Bowel disorders e.g. lazy bowel

  • Unknown

    Tips to Relieve Constipation

Increase dietary fibre – fruit, veg, salad, nuts and seeds

Increase fluid intake – filtered or bottled water

Drink a glass of water with each unit of alcohol (helps prevent hangover symptoms too), or even better avoid alcohol altogether

    Increase regular exercise

Try to go to the toilet immediately you feel the urge, this will slowly increase effectiveness of the bowels

Try using a Squatting Position (feet raised on a small step)
