Is Colonic Irrigation dangerous?
by Rachel
(London, UK)
I've been thinking about having a series of colonic irrigation treatments to help with my irritable bowel.
What I am worried about is whether it is dangerous?
Can you help
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rachel,
Thanks for asking the question "Is Colonic Irrigation Dangerous"?
In general the answer to your question is no, not at all. The health benefits are massive too.
All trained colonic hydrotherapists should be treating people safely.
I personally use a gravity fed system whereby it is not possible to use too much pressure, - any excess water introduced just leaks out.
The water introduced is triple filtered clear water (occasionally additives are added to help with certain conditions).
Sterile and / or disposable equipment should be used at all times and hospital standard hygiene observed at all times.
Colonic Hydrotherapists should belong to a governing body who oversee the standard of the therapists and their treatments.
Of course, this all only works if you use a registered, qualified colonic hydrotherapist, most of whom are in fact nurses with extremely high standards of care.
However.... it is of course possible to find therapists who are not trained, not insured, belong to no governing body etc, so always be careful when choosing your therapist for colonic irrigation.
Hope this answer helps, I am sure you will find your colonic irrigation really helps reduce your irritable bowel symptoms.
All the best
Jane
