    Benefits of a Fleet Enema

This is a tried and tested, well loved enema that has stood the test of time.

The one enema that most people will have heard of is the fleet enema.

It is reliable, effective and easy to use.

This disposable enema is the perfect solution to be kept in your medicine cabinet for occasional constipation relief and bowel cleansing – much more effective than suppositories.

It is often used before medical procedures.

Contraindications – (when not to use)

The Fleet has a great safety record but of course check out with your doctor or health care provider if you are pregnant, breast feeding, taking any medications or have allergies or illnesses.

Do NOT use if you have

  • Heart Failure

  • High Amount of Phosphate in the Blood,

  • Low Amount of Calcium in the Blood,

  • High Amount of Sodium in the Blood

    or if you have

  • Kidney Disease or Kidney Damage

    Side Effects

The only common side effects are:

Gas, wind and diarrhea but I would class these more as expected effects of an enema.

    How To Use

This is really easy to use, as with most disposable enemas, there is no complicated equipment or instructions to deal with.

Remember to always use as directed by your doctor.

  • Remove the protective cover from the enema tip before inserting.

  • With steady pressure, gently insert the enema tip into the rectum with a slight side-to-side movement, with the tip pointing toward your belly button.

You might find this easier lying on your left hand side with your knees drawn up.

Insertion may be easier if you bear down just slightly, as if having a bowel movement. This helps relax the muscles around the anus.

  • Do not ever force the enema tip into the rectum. This can cause injury.

  • Squeeze the bottle until empty

  • Remove the tip from the rectum and maintain the position until the urge to evacuate is strong (usually 2 to 5 minutes).

  • It is recommended not to use more than one enema in a day.

For occasional, one off use these are very cost effective, probably much more so than collecting all your own home enema system equipment.

For longer standing constipation remedies and more regular use it would definitely be beneficial to invest in a home enema or home colonic system that can be used for all kinds of different types of enemas and kinds of enema recipe as required for different conditions.
